It has been a long time since I have posted on this blog. I have had some serious political burnout over the past month. I think I am recovering from the insanely long presidential campaign.
I have had a lot of frustrations lately about the various governmental responses to the recession. The Bush administration has done a horrible job. It's policy of giving billions of dollars to various corporations is pure socialism, that is, government paying for almost everything. It picks and chooses what companies to bail out. Talk about unfair. It is not the government's job to financially bail out any corporation, let alone choose what companies are allowed to fail and which one's should be "saved". I believe that all the corporations in huge debt must declare bankruptcy, because that is what they are: bankrupt. You can be sure that if this was a Democratic administration, the conservatives and Republicans would be screaming from the roof tops how horrible it is that government is bailing out private corporations.
Anyway, I don't want to take the time to summarize all the ridiculous government spending to bail out corporations over the past month. Suffice it to say, it is dangerous, bad economic policy, and further moves this country towards ever growing government control of more and more parts of our society. Our freedom decreases as the percentage of society that government controls increases. A principle of conservatism is decentralized, local government that is easily approachable and changeable compared to a centralized bureaucracy.
Welcome to the arena
Here you will find my opinions about the application of political principles to the news of the day. My perspective is clearly from the conservative point of view. This is a place to express my concerns, passions, irritations, and commentary as they apply to the current political issues of the day. Political is defined loosely in this blog. There may be posts that are not strictly political, such as movie reviews, medical topics, religious commentary and thoughts on history. I hope interest will be generated by blending my thoughts with current events. I anticipate that there will be honest disagreement. I encourage feedback to my posts with the goal of achieving clarity of disagreement. I will strive to keep the conversation polite and respectful, while avoiding political correctness and maintaining tension to keep things exciting. Hopefully, friends and family will enjoy frequenting the arena for a little intellectual stimulation and good ol' fashioned debate.
