Welcome to the arena

Here you will find my opinions about the application of political principles to the news of the day. My perspective is clearly from the conservative point of view. This is a place to express my concerns, passions, irritations, and commentary as they apply to the current political issues of the day. Political is defined loosely in this blog. There may be posts that are not strictly political, such as movie reviews, medical topics, religious commentary and thoughts on history. I hope interest will be generated by blending my thoughts with current events. I anticipate that there will be honest disagreement. I encourage feedback to my posts with the goal of achieving clarity of disagreement. I will strive to keep the conversation polite and respectful, while avoiding political correctness and maintaining tension to keep things exciting. Hopefully, friends and family will enjoy frequenting the arena for a little intellectual stimulation and good ol' fashioned debate.

First details of Obamacare emerge

The initial house bill for healthcare "reform" is 1, 018 pages. It is more like healthcare destruction. The plan calls for a 5.4% tax on all income above $1 million. There will also be a tax on households that make over $300, 000.

This plan is a disaster. It will crush small businesses. It will cause signficant injury to an economy that is already very sick. The bill includes a government option, which basically insures that private industry won't be able to compete. It forces everyone to buy health insurance. It does not include any tort reform.

“We can’t continue to put more and more money into health care,” said Representative Henry Waxman, a California Democrat who runs the House Energy and Commerce Committee. What a joke. Only a politician can support legislation that costs more than a trillion dollars and then make the above comment. Every day is "opposite day" in Washington DC.

If this bill becomes law in its current form, it is the end of freedom and capatilism as we know it in this country.
