Welcome to the arena

Here you will find my opinions about the application of political principles to the news of the day. My perspective is clearly from the conservative point of view. This is a place to express my concerns, passions, irritations, and commentary as they apply to the current political issues of the day. Political is defined loosely in this blog. There may be posts that are not strictly political, such as movie reviews, medical topics, religious commentary and thoughts on history. I hope interest will be generated by blending my thoughts with current events. I anticipate that there will be honest disagreement. I encourage feedback to my posts with the goal of achieving clarity of disagreement. I will strive to keep the conversation polite and respectful, while avoiding political correctness and maintaining tension to keep things exciting. Hopefully, friends and family will enjoy frequenting the arena for a little intellectual stimulation and good ol' fashioned debate.

Stimulus funds stimulation of another kind

Remember the nearly 1 trillion dollars that was recently improved to "stimulate" the economy? Well, $80 million was given to the National Endowment for the Arts to support all those starving artists out there. Here is where some of your hard-earned money that was taxed went to:

$50,000 to the Frameline Filmhouse, a gay and lesbian theater that shows a movie called "Thundercrack", "the world's only underground kinky art porno horror film, complete with four men, three women and a gorilla."

$25,000 to a dance theater in San Francisco called CounterPULSE that currently has a
"long-running pansexual performance series" that invites guests to "join your fellow pervs for some explicit, twisted fun."

$25,000 to the "Symmetry Project", a dance that depicts "the sharing of a central axis, [as] spine, mouth, genitals, face, and anus reveal their interconnectedness and centrality in embodied experience" according to the choreographer. Basically two naked people writhing together on the floor.

$50,000 to the Academy of American Poets.

$50,000 to the American Museum of Ceramic Art.

$50,000 to the California Lawyers for the Arts.

$50,000 to the Center for Puppetry Arts.

You can read the full list of art grants here and an article about the grants here.

I guess it's good that the taxpayer money is stimulating something!

That's enraging. I resent that my tax dollars are being used to fund this - and that we have no say in the matter. Who in the world is in charge of allocating these funds?
