Welcome to the arena

Here you will find my opinions about the application of political principles to the news of the day. My perspective is clearly from the conservative point of view. This is a place to express my concerns, passions, irritations, and commentary as they apply to the current political issues of the day. Political is defined loosely in this blog. There may be posts that are not strictly political, such as movie reviews, medical topics, religious commentary and thoughts on history. I hope interest will be generated by blending my thoughts with current events. I anticipate that there will be honest disagreement. I encourage feedback to my posts with the goal of achieving clarity of disagreement. I will strive to keep the conversation polite and respectful, while avoiding political correctness and maintaining tension to keep things exciting. Hopefully, friends and family will enjoy frequenting the arena for a little intellectual stimulation and good ol' fashioned debate.

The reason I voted for Obama (in 200 words or less)

The main reason I voted for Obama is that I perceive his value system is closely aligned with mine. My values flow from my theological and metaphysical beliefs. Care for the oppressed and powerless; do unto others as you would have them do unto you; respect all people and assume you all have equal worth in God's eyes; people have free will and their choices matter; people are born good, but their nature can become distorted through bad choices and poor environments; there are more good people than bad people; God is larger than Christianity; Christianity is the best religion but still has its problems and doesn't answer the ultimate questions in life fully; knowledge allows wisdom and should be pursued; all data are friendly and theories without data are worthless. Obama isn't me and will undoubtedly diverge from some of my values throughout the years, and much of my perceptions could be psychological projection. However, I haven't encountered national politician who's behavior and words felt so familiar to my own values.
