Our two party system often means that the choice of candidate does not closely match one's political views. This describes how I feel about McCain and Obama. As a conservative, my core political values include a belief in personal responsibility and limited government. Many competing ideas of the best way to organize society have been theorized and put into practice. All of them have flaws. The United States has been the most successful form of government in history. It is centralized enough to maintain a cohesive nation, while delegating much authority to states, counties, and cities. Americans are free to persue their dreams. Hard work and dedication bring success. John McCain is more likely to limit the run away expansion of federal government. I will get to keep more of my hard earned money to use as I see fit. America is great because of it's citizens and the system that allows them to succced and fail. Obama believes in a socialist form of government that penalizes financial rewards in order to redistribute wealth towards a utopian goal of equal outcome that has never been achieved in our earth's history. He worships at the alter of government that strives to be the ultimate nanny state.

Welcome to the arena
Here you will find my opinions about the application of political principles to the news of the day. My perspective is clearly from the conservative point of view. This is a place to express my concerns, passions, irritations, and commentary as they apply to the current political issues of the day. Political is defined loosely in this blog. There may be posts that are not strictly political, such as movie reviews, medical topics, religious commentary and thoughts on history. I hope interest will be generated by blending my thoughts with current events. I anticipate that there will be honest disagreement. I encourage feedback to my posts with the goal of achieving clarity of disagreement. I will strive to keep the conversation polite and respectful, while avoiding political correctness and maintaining tension to keep things exciting. Hopefully, friends and family will enjoy frequenting the arena for a little intellectual stimulation and good ol' fashioned debate.
