Is anyone else as tired of Nazi name calling as I am? The biggest pejorative name you can accuse a political opponent of is doing something similar to what the Nazis did. This happens frequently on both sides of the isle. It has exploded this week during the health care debate. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is accusing conservative protesters at town hall meetings of bringing swastikas. Southwest Washington Democrat Representative Brian Baird accuses upset voters at town hall meetings of using "brown shirt tactics". Rush Limbaugh is comparing the new Obama healthcare plan symbol to a Nazi swastika. This is what happens when political representatives refuse to listen to the people. There is no outlet for constructive debate. Passiononate name calling ensues.
The amount of constructive dialogue between the right and left on the health care issue is plummeting. Conservatives are highly frustrated and passionate. The healthcare legislation is basically being rammed down our throats. Conservative Republican ideas have been completely excluded from the legislation. Huge pressure from the White House is being applied to rush a bill through without allowing any thoughtful debate (or even time for reading if Obama had his way, see previous passage of cap and tax and stimulous bills). Democrat senators and representatives are refusing to meet with the public during the August recess (at this point my representative has no public meetings scheduled). Huge reform issues such as medical liability limitations are not even being considered. Healthcare is too huge of an issue and too complicated to be solved by one grand piece of utopian legislation that promises coverage for everyone with increased quality, no rationing, and decreased cost. Americans don't believe the promises and they shouldn't.
Welcome to the arena
Here you will find my opinions about the application of political principles to the news of the day. My perspective is clearly from the conservative point of view. This is a place to express my concerns, passions, irritations, and commentary as they apply to the current political issues of the day. Political is defined loosely in this blog. There may be posts that are not strictly political, such as movie reviews, medical topics, religious commentary and thoughts on history. I hope interest will be generated by blending my thoughts with current events. I anticipate that there will be honest disagreement. I encourage feedback to my posts with the goal of achieving clarity of disagreement. I will strive to keep the conversation polite and respectful, while avoiding political correctness and maintaining tension to keep things exciting. Hopefully, friends and family will enjoy frequenting the arena for a little intellectual stimulation and good ol' fashioned debate.
