Here you will find my opinions about the application of political principles to the news of the day. My perspective is clearly from the conservative point of view. This is a place to express my concerns, passions, irritations, and commentary as they apply to the current political issues of the day. Political is defined loosely in this blog. There may be posts that are not strictly political, such as movie reviews, medical topics, religious commentary and thoughts on history. I hope interest will be generated by blending my thoughts with current events. I anticipate that there will be honest disagreement. I encourage feedback to my posts with the goal of achieving clarity of disagreement. I will strive to keep the conversation polite and respectful, while avoiding political correctness and maintaining tension to keep things exciting. Hopefully, friends and family will enjoy frequenting the arena for a little intellectual stimulation and good ol' fashioned debate.

President Obama says shut up

I will not shut up. It's ironic coming from the world's most famous "community organizer" that he wants people fighting against his health care plan to be quiet. Isn't it the civic duty of every American to speak up for what they believe in? Watch this clip from president Obama's speech yesterday.



Who made the mess? President Obama does not give specifics. However, it's clear whom he wants to be quiet. Americans all over the country are becoming very vocal about their opposition to Obamacare. This includes, but is not limited to conservatives, libertarians, and a lot of Republicans.

The problems in American healthcare are very complex. I've said before that it is the most complex problem I know of. Therefore, there are no easy answers, quick fixes, or legislative magic that can make issues of cost and coverage go away. There are many reasons for the "mess" as Obama calls it. One of the biggest is the government. Ask any doctor who deals frequently with Medicare, Medicaid, MediCal, or the Oregon health plan. These programs already take of 23% of the national budget (see previous blog post) despite pitifully low reimbursement. The regulations for patient care are constantly getting more and more onerous. Congress already has to step in every year to keep Medicare/Medicaid payments to doctors from being cut even more. Obamacare proposes to cut Medicare payments even further to pay for more coverage of a different group of people. A huge cause of cost increases in healthcare is due to medical liability coverage and massive amounts of unnecessary treaments and tests done to "CYA" as doctors like to say (here is a great article on tort reform). The elephant in the room is the fact that 70-80% of cost increases are due to increased utilization by people with 100% preventable diseases because they don't take care of themselves (example one: the obesity epidemic).

So no, I WILL NOT SHUT UP. I WILL NOT BE APATHETIC AND LET A TOUGH PROBLEM BE MADE WORSE BY NATIONALIZING HEALTH CARE IN THIS COUNTRY OF FREEDOM. FREEDOM IS DANGEROUS AND THE MOST VALUABLE RIGHT. JUST ASK GOD HOW VALUABLE AND DANGEROUS FREEDOM CAN BE.
